Started a new painting this evening, one which I have been wanting to do for quite some time. It is going to be a monochromatic painting on a large aluminum panel all using Wicked colors.
In this first image, the line drawing is sketched on with a standard HB pencil, just focusing on layout of the necessary elements to ensure the perspective and proper location of the facial elements are correct.
This step about an hour into the initial work is showing very loosely blocking in the shapes and setting the midtones so I can start to establish the values I want for the contrasting layers and upcoming tighter detail work. This is always the stage in the painting where a little faith has to be employed that the next layers are going to start chiseling out the details and start bringing it to life. Really looking forward to pushing through this one and watching it progress.
