Picture
Finished a portrait for a friend depicting her young son. Fun project painted on a 16" x 20" canvas using a combination of the Iwata HP CH airbrush and Wicked Detail colors.

Start adding the foreground elements

Picture
Start by masking off the background and freehand airbrushing the first shark in the exposed area. This image painted with greatly over reduced Wicked Detail colors and the Iwata HP-CH, a wonderful combination.

Picture
The second shark is applied the same way as the first, keeping mindful of the lighting changes due the varied elevations of each shark.

Picture
A view of the sharks in their respective locations after unmasking.

Picture
Starting on the second panel, I begin by adding the Nautilus, using a similar method as the sharks in the previous panel.

Started blocking in the backgrounds for the three vertical panels today. As it is an underwater theme here, they are all ocean bottom, not heavily detailed to allow a good base for the upcoming foreground artwork.

Always seems a bit counter intuitive to sand perfect glossy clear down for the next steps but a necessity for the next steps.
For this step, have masked out the areas which will retain the Platinum Pearl basecoat. For this of course using FBS tapes for the masking. The design was laid out using the Aqua ProBand crepe fineline, with the remainder filled using 3/4" AutoGrafix tape. This combination provides a perfect seal against bleeding and underspray, with the confidence that there will be no adhesive residue remaining when it is removed. The unmasked areas are going to provide the work area for the upcoming mural work, which it when the fun begins.

Easter Fun

For Easter weekend, it goes without saying that there is going to be some painting done. Eggs are a little overdone, and frankly they do not provide a very big surface to use as a canvas. We painted canvas shoes, which proved to be very fun.
Picture
My lovely daughter painted these for herself, a very creative and well done Tardis theme from Doctor Who.

Picture
Stuck to an old school theme for these with flake, lace and various tape outs and fades. A very sparkly pair shoe indeed.
